Due to meets being rescheduled due to weather, the Girl's track team just finished up a busy week filled with track meets.  Highlights include:

Mountain Range Mustang Invitational- This meet had 37 teams making scoring in the top eight a tough feat.  But the 4X800 relay of Veronica Petrillo '18, Anna Nelson '17, Anna Mounts '18 and Savannah Martin '18 notched a second place finish and the only points for the Gators at this meet.  Petrillo started the team off, handing the baton to Nelson with the team in 8th place, already in scoring range.  Nelson picked off five places to pass off the baton to Mounts in 3rd place.  Mounts maintained third with a gutsy run, finally shaking two runners who ran on her shoulder most of her leg.  Martin, running her first race this season after injury, picked up one more place, moving the team into a solid second.  Their time was good enough to rank them 13th in the State.  The top 18 at the end of the season will be invited to the State Meet.

Weld Central Rebel Roundup- The 4X800 relay was at it again at this meet.  This time Emma Abernethy '17 joined Nelson, Petrillo and Martin on the track.  The # 13 Gators came to the line seeded behind #5 Mead.  Mead ran well, shaving one second off their season best time, but the Gators ran better.  Abernethy ran first for the Gators, taking the lead with 250 meters left on her leg.  The rest of the team never looked back, securing the Gators only win of the night.  As of the writing of this article, the Gator 4X800 is now ranked 9th in the State.  Especially notable was Petrillo taking seven seconds off her personal best time in the 800 while running her leg.

The same foursome also came back later in the evening to run the 4X400, placing fifth.  Abernethy (3rd 1600), Nelson (4th 1600) and Martin (5th Shot Put) also brought home individual ribbons.  Also scoring in individual events were Lina Vogler (8th 300M Hurdles), Hanna Davis '17 (3rd High Jump), Jackie Paik '16 (7th High Jump, 6th Pole Vault), Rachel Cody '18 (3rd Pole Vault), and Sami Pence '18 (4th Pole Vault).  The Gators obviously have a strong Pole Vaulting crew.

Cody and Petrillo also joined Jackie Paik '16 and Cami Schmelzer '18 on the 8th place 4X200 relay.

The Gators return to the track for the Don Osse Lakewood Tiger Classic on April 14th.
