The Girls Track Team placed fourth out of nine teams against fellow Jeffco rivals tonight. The Pole Vault was the highlight event for the Gators with all three competing Gators scoring points. Rachel Cody '18 vaulted to a personal record (PR) 7-0ft for a tie for second place. Sami Pence '18 also vaulted 7-0ft but ended up in fourth place due to prior missed attempts. Jackie Paik '16 finished in fifth with a 6-0 ft performance.
A second event where more than one Gator scored points was the 1600M run where Anna Nelson '17 and Emma Abernethy '17 scored 4th (5:52.72) and 5th (6:05.27), respectively. Nelson and Abernethy earlier joined Veronica Petrillo '18 and Anna Mounts '18 on the third place 4X800 relay.
Other relays earning points were the sixth place 4X100 team of Cody, Sadie Heffelman '17, Britta Swanson '18, and Fallin Smith '17. The 800 Medley Relay of Heffelman, Petrillo, Cody, and Cammy Schmelzer '18 placed third.
Paik also earned points with a seventh place finish in the 100 hurdles (PR 19.66) and eighth place finish in the 300 hurdles (58.26). Savannah Martin '18 found success again in her new found event placing 4th in the Shot Put with a PR 28-7ft throw. Smith placed fifth in the 400 meters with a 1:11.9. Lina Vogler '18 rounded out the SLHS scoring total with a 5th place Triple Jump (PR 29-8.25) effort and an eighth place tie in High Jump (PR 4-02).
It was cold and windy, but several Gators recorded PRs this meet. In addition to the PRs noted above, the following achieved personal best efforts: Jennifer Holguin Guevara '19 (Shot 21-10 and Disc 56-09), Hannah Laughlin '19 (1600M 6:44.19), Mounts (800M 2:50.83), Pence (100M 14.85), Swanson (100H 20.21), Jamie Torbet '19 (Shot 23-05), and Vogler (100H 20.55).
